Bright Futures Don’t Always Start with Uni 🎓✨ A-Level Results Day
READ TIME - 4 minute read

As with many households across the country, we will be waiting for A level results today, and by the time you read this I hope to be celebrating with our daughter and her friends.
Our daughter is planning on University as the career she wants to pursue requires a certain degree - so we will have two “children” at Uni in London - a great excuse to spend more time in the city I love.
However, not every young person will be heading off to university or college. Some by choice. Some by circumstance.
But here’s the good news: they could be your organisation’s next great hire.
Taking on a young person through an apprenticeship isn’t just about giving them a chance (though that’s a big part of it). It’s about building your talent pipeline, growing loyalty, and bringing fresh perspective into your team.
A few reasons why it works:
✅ Motivation: Many apprentices are keen to prove themselves—and grow with you.
✅ Value: You can shape them to your way of working from day one.
✅ Support: There’s funding available, plus great training providers out there.
But success doesn’t happen by luck. Here's how to make it work:
Have a clear plan: Know what you want them to learn and who will support them.
Choose the right training provider: Not all are equal—ask around and get recommendations.
Treat them as a team member: Not the “junior” who gets the boring jobs.
Check your policies: From pay to progression, are they apprentice-friendly?
We are hoping that to be able to take on our first HR Apprenctice later this year, a goal I have had for many years but until now not been able to do.
Until next week,
Emma
P.S. If you're unsure where to start, the HR Hub has apprenticeship documentation and LOADS of recruitment guides, templates and checklists. Why not try the HR Hub free for a month here.
