It's All About People - 2nd October 2025

Do managers need to be superheroes?

READ TIME - 4 minute read

This week I had the privilege of attending the Entrepreneurs Circle Convention – two days packed with ideas, insights, and inspiration. The theme of the two days was Superheroes.

I’ll share more next week about my favourite speakers and the lessons I took away, but one big reminder was this:

👉 Learning only becomes learning when you do something with it.

We can read, listen, and take notes all day long… but unless we act on it, nothing changes.

That got me thinking:

  • How do we encourage continuous learning in our teams?

  • Are we giving people opportunities to grow and develop?

  • And crucially, are we creating space to apply what they’ve learned?

Because the real value of learning isn’t in the classroom or the conference hall – it’s in how it changes the way we work.

I also spent time pondering - can managers really be superheroes?

Sometimes it feels like you need superhuman powers just to juggle the daily demands – hitting targets, supporting your team, keeping customers happy, and dealing with the unexpected.

But the real superhero quality of a manager isn’t about doing everything at once.
It’s about the impact you have on people:

  • Do you inspire your team?

  • Do you step in and support when they need you?

  • Do you consistently do the right thing?

And like any superhero, managers aren’t born – they’re made.

Their powers come from continuous learning and development, and the willingness to put that learning into practice - my continued theme for this week.

That’s why management training is so important. It gives people the tools, confidence, and mindset to lead well – not just manage tasks.

If you’d like to explore how your managers can develop their own superpowers, we’ve recently launched our CMI-accredited management training – flexible, practical, and designed to turn potential into capability.

Because the truth is, while managers don’t need capes, they can become superheroes in the eyes of their teams.

Until next week…

Best wishes,
Emma
