What’s New in HR? Get Ahead in 2025

As well as the all important business planning in late 2024, I also make sure that I plan for the fun, social stuff in 2025.

For those that know me, you will know I love shows, live music and time with my family and friends. So I have concerts booked, shows booked and holidays to look forward to.

It started last week when I went to see Devil Wears Prada with my son in London - and loved it!

📋️ In terms of HR, 2025 is already shaping up to be a BIG year for HR and employment law! Staying ahead of the changes is key to keeping your business compliant, your team happy, and your costs under control. 😊

Here are some of the key updates to look out for:
🔹 National Living Wage Increase: From April 2025, it’s rising to £12.21/hour. Time to review those payrolls and budgets! 🪙


🔹 Neo-Natal Leave and Pay: From April 2025, eligible parents will have a statutory right to leave and pay when their baby is receiving neo-natal care. This is a significant step to support working families. 👶


🔹 Reducing Absence for a More Productive Year: High absence rates impact your bottom line, increase stress on other employees, and reduce productivity. Focusing on employee wellbeing and proactive absence management can set the tone for a healthier, happier, and more cost-effective 2025.

As mentioned a few times last year, this will get much more expensive in 2026, so use this year to get costs under control.

💡 What You Can Do Today:
1️⃣ Start auditing your contracts, handbooks, and payroll systems to ensure you’re ready for these changes.
2️⃣ Plan for Neo-Natal Leave and Pay by reviewing your policies and ensuring your team is aware of this new entitlement.
3️⃣ Proactively address absence with strategies like wellbeing initiatives, clear absence policies, and manager training to support employee health.
